  • Cần lưu ý sự khác biệt về sắc thái: 'intimate' trong tiếng Anh có thể bao hàm cả quan hệ xác thịt (sexual), nên cần cẩn trọng khi dùng trong các ngữ cảnh trang trọng tại Việt Nam để tránh hiểu lầm.

Etymology

Originating in the mid-16th century from the Latin 'intimatus', past participle of 'intimare' (meaning to make known or impress), which comes from 'intimus' (meaning inmost). The adjective sense of being 'close' developed later from the idea of something being inmost or deeply personal. Source: Oxford Dictionary of English Etymology.
