Terms of Service

Engrove is a vocabulary-learning product built around a "plant, care, harvest" model: you save ("plant") words you encounter, review them on a spaced-repetition schedule ("care"), and demonstrate real understanding of them ("harvest"). The Service includes:

• The Engrove Dictionary — English word entries with meanings, examples, and Vietnamese translations.
• The core learning app (Seed Bag, Garden, Watering, Harvest, practice exercises, and related features), available on the web and, where released, on mobile and desktop.
• A browser extension that lets you look up and save a word you select on any webpage.
• Video-based learning features that fetch publicly available captions/subtitles for a video URL you provide, to power vocabulary practice from that video.
• Optional premium features ("Engrove+") and an in-app virtual currency ("Xu"), described in Section 7.

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you may only use the Service with the involvement of a parent or legal guardian.

You can create an account with an email and password, through a supported third-party sign-in (Google or Apple), or as an anonymous guest. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for all activity under your account. Tell us immediately if you suspect unauthorized use of your account.

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or in a way that infringes someone else's rights.
• Attempt to access, scrape, or interfere with the Service, its data, or other users' accounts without authorization.
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service, except where the law expressly permits it.
• Automate calls to our API or browser extension endpoints outside of normal, individual, interactive use.
• Upload, submit, or link to content that is illegal, infringing, or that you do not have the right to use.

When you provide a video URL, Engrove retrieves publicly available captions or transcripts for that video solely to generate vocabulary and shadowing exercises from it. Engrove does not host or redistribute the underlying video. You are responsible for only submitting videos you have the right to use for this purpose, and for complying with the terms of the platform the video is hosted on.

If you believe content accessible through the Service infringes your copyright, contact us at legal@engrove.app with a description of the work, the material you believe is infringing, and your contact information, and we will investigate.

Some features send limited data to third-party providers to generate a response — for example, resolving a word you select with the browser extension, or generating a premium learning insight. These providers currently include Anthropic and a ModelStack-hosted language model. AI-generated content (definitions, examples, insights) may occasionally be inaccurate or incomplete; use your own judgment, especially for anything beyond casual language learning.

Dictionary entries, translations, and audio pronunciations are sourced and curated by Engrove and its data providers and are provided for personal learning use only.

Xu is a virtual, in-app unit with no real-world monetary value, cash equivalent, or redemption value outside the Service. Xu and Engrove+ premium features are licensed to you, not sold — we may change, limit, or discontinue them, or adjust how Xu is earned or spent, at any time. If you purchase Xu or an Engrove+ subscription through an app store, that purchase is also governed by the app store's own terms and refund policies.

The Service, including its software, design, and the Engrove name and logo, is owned by Engrove or its licensors and protected by intellectual property laws. We grant you a limited, personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive license to use the Service for your own language learning. You retain no ownership rights in dictionary content, AI-generated content, or other material we provide through the Service.

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, that dictionary or AI-generated content will be accurate or complete, or that using the Service will result in any particular language-learning outcome.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ENGROVE AND ITS TEAM WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR (B) 20 USD.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you.

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold Engrove harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your violation of these Terms or misuse of the Service.

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you violate these Terms or if we reasonably believe doing so is necessary to protect the Service or other users. You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from Settings, or by requesting deletion at privacy@engrove.app. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle your data on deletion.

We are actively building Engrove and may add, change, or remove features (including free features) at any time. We may update these Terms from time to time; if we make material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you (for example, in-app or by email) before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

These Terms are governed by the laws of [governing-law jurisdiction — to be finalized], without regard to conflict-of-law rules. This section will be updated once Engrove's operating jurisdiction is finalized.
