Etymology

Origin: Middle English (in the sense 'to perform, carry out'). From Old French 'practique', via Late Latin 'practica', from Greek 'praktikē', the feminine of 'praktikos' (concerned with action), from 'prassein' (to do). The modern spelling with 'c' for the noun and 's' for the verb in British English developed in the 16th century, though American English now uses 'c' for both.
