- Người Việt Nam thường rất coi trọng việc 'không làm phiền người khác'. Do đó, các cụm từ như 'Làm phiền bạn quá' (I've put you to so much bother) được dùng rất thường xuyên để giữ phép lịch sự.
- Từ 'bother' trong ngữ cảnh 'can't be bothered' có thể dịch là 'ngại' trong tiếng Việt (ví dụ: 'Ngại làm quá'), phản ánh tâm lý trì hoãn hoặc lười biếng nhẹ nhàng.
Etymology
Originates from the late 17th century. Possibly from the Irish 'bodhairim' meaning 'I deafen or annoy'. It first appeared in Anglo-Irish literature, notably in the works of Jonathan Swift, and originally meant to bewilder or confuse (Oxford Dictionary of English Etymology).
