Use the verb 'to be' (is/are) with the adjective 'freezing' to describe the temperature of a place.

Don't confuse with

  • frozen

    turned into ice (past participle)

    “The lake is frozen.”

Use 'freezing' for the ongoing process or current temperature, and 'frozen' for the completed state of being solid ice.

  • cold

'Freezing' is an extreme adjective meaning 'very cold'. You can say 'very cold', but you should say 'absolutely freezing', not 'very freezing'.
