- Từ này thường xuất hiện trong các văn bản pháp luật hoặc quyết định của Ủy ban Nhân dân các cấp tại Việt Nam.
- Khác với 'appoint' (thường dùng cho chức vụ cá nhân), 'designate' có phạm vi rộng hơn, dùng được cho cả việc phân loại đất đai hoặc mục đích sử dụng công trình.
Etymology
From Latin 'designatus', the past participle of 'designare', meaning 'to mark out' or 'point out'. It is composed of the prefix 'de-' (out/from) and 'signare' (to mark), from 'signum' (a mark or sign). It entered English in the mid-17th century (Source: Oxford Dictionary of English Etymology).
