Notes for Vietnamese speakers

  • Người học Việt Nam thường nhầm lẫn giữa trạng từ 'considerably' và tính từ 'considerable'. Hãy nhớ 'considerably' luôn bổ nghĩa cho động từ hoặc tính từ so sánh.
  • Trong giao tiếp đời thường, người Việt có thể thay thế bằng cụm 'nhiều lắm' hoặc 'rất nhiều', nhưng 'đáng kể' mang sắc thái chuyên nghiệp hơn.

Etymology

Late Middle English: from Latin considerare 'examine', from con- 'together' + sidus, sider- 'star' (originally meaning 'to observe the stars'). The adverb form developed in the late 16th century from the adjective 'considerable' combined with the suffix '-ly' to denote degree.
