'Unable' is usually used after a verb (predicative) and not before a noun (attributive).

Do not use 'from' after 'unable'. Use the infinitive form.

Notes for Vietnamese speakers

  • Trong tiếng Việt, 'unable' thường được dịch đơn giản là 'không thể', nhưng trong văn cảnh trang trọng hoặc hành chính, người Việt thường dùng cụm 'không có khả năng' hoặc 'không đủ điều kiện'.
  • Người Việt có xu hướng thêm các từ chỉ nguyên nhân (do, tại, vì) khi sử dụng từ này để giữ phép lịch sự và tránh gây cảm giác từ chối thẳng thừng.

Etymology

Middle English (late 14th century): from un- (expressing negation) + the adjective 'able'. Reference: Oxford Dictionary of English Etymology.
