  • Trong tiếng Việt, tùy ngữ cảnh mà 'suck' có thể dịch là 'hút' (chất lỏng), 'mút' (kẹo, tay), hoặc 'tệ/dở' (tiếng lóng).
  • Thành ngữ 'suck it and see' (thử xem sao) ít được người học tại Việt Nam biết đến so với nghĩa lóng 'to be bad'.

Etymology

Middle English 'suken', from Old English 'sūcan', of Germanic origin; related to Dutch 'zuigen' and German 'saugen', from an Indo-European root shared by Latin 'sugere' (to suck). The slang sense of being bad emerged in the late 20th century in American English.
